Welcome

Oxford has been called 'The City of Dreaming Spires' after its beautiful architecture and stunning skyline, but it is also a thriving international community, with academics, researchers and students from over 140 countries engaged in world-class research and teaching with a global impact.

Whether you are thinking of joining the University from overseas, have already accepted a job offer or study place here and are planning your relocation, or are moving from another part of the UK, you can be sure to find a supportive and cosmopolitan environment in which to make your home. These pages are intended to help you cover all the practicalities before, during, and after your move, and to provide information to help you to settle in as quickly as possible and make the most of all the wonderful opportunities the University and city have to offer.

We hope that this website will be a useful starting point as you plan your move to Oxford. Please email the Welcome Service Coordinator, Sue Morris, if you have any questions about the information provided on this site.

And that sweet City with her dreaming spires

She needs not June for beauty's heightening

The famous quotation comes from the poem Thyrsis, written in 1866 by Matthew Arnold. He was inspired by the view looking down towards Oxford from nearby Boars Hill.
